Successful July in EUC 2023 season

The month of July is the period in which the majority of the European Universities Championships in the summer season of 2023 took place and were completed with great results and many new champions!

European University Sports Association (EUSA) opened this year's Championships season on 25th of June with the competition in Football, and throughout July, 11 Championships were successfully held, hosting: Tennis, Table Tennis, Handball, Badminton, Water Polo, 3x3 Basketball, Volleyball, Futsal, Combat Sports and Basketball.

July was filled with great moments of athleticism and fair play, showcasing incredible talent of young students from across Europe. Each game brought its share of excitement, anticipation, surprises and moments of brilliance, leaving both the participants and spectators in awe of the raw talent that every student-athlete presented.

With the great number of over 4100 participants in the so far completed championships, we are striving towards a record number by the end of the summer season this September.

As mentioned before, the 2023 European Universities Championships summer season had a fantastic start with Football in Tirana and a great continuation with Tennis, Table Tennis and Handball. The first half of the month brought us the first European Universities Champions, rising the excitement for the following events.

Mid July was the time when Badminton, Water Polo, 3x3 Basketball and Volleyball Championships were held, showcasing their skills. The taleted student-athletes showed their exceptional performances, competing for the best results and personal bests.

The European Universities Championships in Combat Sports (Judo, Karate, Kickboxing and Taekwondo), Futsal and Basketball concluded this competitive month. The events enabled a great deal of competition and encouraged the competitors to excel, while competing with fair play and great respect towards the opponents.

However, the season is not yet finished. After a short break, in August we are continuing the great summer season with the start of Orienteering, Rugby 7s, Rowing and Beach Sports (Beach Handball and Beach Volleyball). And to top it off, the inaugural edition of the Winter Sports (Alpine Skiing, Snowboarding and Snow Volleyball), will be held in December. Without a doubt, these championships will bring as much fun, scores, strong competition and great results as the rest that already have concluded.

EUSA's European Universities Championships offer the possibilities for student athletes to compete and challenge their sporting abilities, and besides counting the scores and results, they keep demonstrating that this is the time and place where we highlight the power of sports to foster friendships, understanding, and mutual respect among nations, reminding of the unifying spirit of sports.

We hope that this successful season of the European Universites Championships season will leave its own legacy and be another example of inspiration for future generations of university athletes across Europe.

Reflection on EUSA Internship

whatsup-augustIn this month’s What’s up student Column our EUSA Intern Ms Emma Carrière reflects on her experience and journey through her internship at EUSA Office in Ljubljana.

My name is Carrière Emma, I’m 20 years old and i’m from France. I did this internship at EUSA for my studies, related to doing an advance technician certificate in the management.

I wanted to do my first international internship in the European University Sports Association (EUSA) with the intention of getting experience in the sports sector, being resoursful and relaxed in the same time. I also needed a challenge for myself to be in a new country and new environment.

For me as an overthinker, the work was a little bit complicated because of the frequent dynamics, but it’s actually turned out to be very well organized in the end. However, this brought another type of experience for me and has put an added value to my multi-tasking skills.

Nevertheless, the welcoming energy from EUSA team in the office, made me feel like I am part of a real family, and I was such an important part of the journey. About the way of working, it was not that new for me because I already did my last internship at the French University Federation in Bordeaux and they had the same habits.

Speaking of opportunities, I got them many, especially with the travels that I had the chance to do, like being part of the ENGSO Youth Sport Platform in Sweden and the European Universities TableTennis Championship in Czech Republic. These were such amazing experiences and I'm really thankful to them for giving me this kind of opportunities to learn and gain new experiences.

Slovenia is also very beautiful, the capital is pretty small and quiet with a lot of green areas. It’s really cute and the right place for the nature lovers with all of the forest, caves and waterfalls. I recommend this country to everyone who would like to discover new places without changing to much their occidental habits, we are still in Europe with kinda the same way of living.

After this experience with EUSA in Ljubljana, I’m so excited to do an other international internship and discover new countries, culture and people. It’s like I’m a new person since my departure to Slovenia. I could recommend you a million time to travel, discover new things and take some risk, the best is coming for all of you only if you take all of the opportunity.

The author of this article, Emma Carrière, did an internship at the European University Sports Association as part of her studies. She has a certificate of higher technician in management in Bordeaux, France.
