Are you registered for the European Universities Championships 2023?

European University Sports Association (EUSA) would like to invite you to explore the next year’s European Universities Championships, to register and make sure you compete in your chosen sport.

We are happy to  report a big interest for this year's European Universities Championships, and to give you a reminder that it is still possible to register through the national university sports bodies in European countries.

In 2023, 20 sports are offered in the EUSA sports programme: Football, Tennis, Table Tennis, Handball, Badminton, Water Polo, 3x3 Basketball, Volleyball, Futsal, Combat Sports (Judo, Karate, Kickboxing, Taekwondo), Basketball, Orienteering, Rugby 7s, Golf, Rowing and Beach Sports (Beach Handball and Beach Volleyball).

A lot of the offered sports are already veterans on the EUSA Championships sport program, unlike the Beach Handball and Orienteering, that have recently but very enthusiastically started their path in 2019.

This year, as many more since 2001, when the first European Universities Championships started as being part of EUSA Sports program, higher education students in Europe, have the opportunity to take part in 20 European Universities Championships, that will be taking place around 20 European cities and countries. Some of them have already been hosts to multiple Championships before, some of them are trying their organising skills for an EUSA event for the very first time.

The championships have been organised annually since 2001, and since 2012 they are organised on a biannual basis, gathering student-athletes from universities all around Europe, providing them a chance to compete in team sports and in individual sports.
The 2023 season of European Universities Championship will begin with the Championship in Football, taking place in Tirana from June 25 until July 4 and will be wrapped up with the Championship in Beach Sports from September 19-24.

The organisers of the championships, through the Inspection Visits and regular communication, are collaborating successfully with EUSA, to make sure the championships will run smoothly, having great competition standards.

Although we are facing a high number of registrations already for certain sports, we encourage you to do not hesitate to register and make sure you ensure your spot in the competition, as the number of places are limited.

The Registration is possible:
- through European national university sports bodies

The deadlines to register:
- February 15 for events starting in June and July
- March 15 for events starting in August and September

At the same time, please note that we are also inviting invite volunteers to register their interest to take part in the sports events and contribute to the organisation of the championships, with the same deadlines to apply - February 15 for sports which start in June and July, and March 15 for sports which start in August and September.

Internship in EUSA

whatsup-february In the February edition of the What's Up EUSA Student Column, we get to know a bit more Quentin Grivel and Clemence Enjalbal who did their Erasmus+ internship in EUSA, which was part of their work-study programme.

Back in France, they are engaged in the master degree on Marketing and Commercial performance at teh PPA Business School and at the same time working for the Organizing Committee of Rugby World Cup France2023 as venue director assistants in Saint-Etienne, with different tasks.

Clemence
For the past 2 years, I have overseen the CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) policy in Saint-Etienne venue. I have been working on subject such as waste management, food wastage and experience of spectators with disability. With time, I get more and more interested by technical subject like broadcast or power and water system, so from February 2023 I will become technical manager assistant in Saint-Etienne.
But my life is not only study and work. I am a nature lover, I like to go on hikes and enjoy being surrounded by nature, to listen at the small stream next to me, the birds singing, and all the nature has to offer. I also like to travel and work in countries to discover the culture and live like a local.
I do practice sports in general, swimming, cycling, snowboarding, but mainly practice rugby. I have been playing for a couple of years now but more recently it is my second year in a female rugby team at XV. I play either lock or blind/open side flanker. What I like in this sport is that it helps to clear the head and the contact through tackles allows to let go away all the frustration accumulated at the end of the day.

Quentin:
I am 24 years old, and I have been now working for the Rugby World Cup in Saint-Etienne as venues director assistant for the past 2 years. I have been able to work on different subjects like the promotion of the event, the technical aspects, or even studies on CSR subjects. I am now working totally as assistant manager of the volunteer’s programme, a project I have also been following since I joined France 2023.
At first, my missions consisted in promoting the programme, especially to students and sports organisations. Then, I followed the evolution of the applications and established a communication link with the candidates. I worked on the constitution of the teams for the different positions. Now, we are completing these teams with the help of the programme manager, we are working on the layout of the future volunteer centre, and we are preparing various events such as team meetings, general and specific training courses.
Outside of work, I am a big fan of sports, especially football, rugby, cycling and winter sports. I also enjoy trail running, hiking and snowboarding in my free time.

At EUSA, Clemence and Quentin were researching the scope of university sport in Europe, doing market analysis and findings. The result will be part of their graduation thesis. The Erasmus+ traineeship is co-funded by the European Union.
