Have you registered for the European Universities Championships 2025?

European University Sports Association (EUSA) would like to invite you to explore this year’s European Universities Championships, to register and make sure you compete in your chosen sport.

It is with great satisfaction that we report a high level of enthusiasm for this year's European Universities Championships. We would like to give you a reminder that it is still possible to register through the national university sports bodies in European countries.

In 2025 we will be welcoming university teams from all over Europe to take part in 18 sports events, for a total of 24 sports competitions: 3x3 Basketball, Badminton, Basketball, Beach Sports (Beach Handball and Beach Volleyball), Chess, Combat Sports (Judo, Karate, Kickboxing, Taekwondo), Football, Futsal, Handball, Orienteering, Rowing, Rugby 7s, Table Tennis, Tennis, Volleyball, Water Polo, and Padel - for the first time in EUSA EUC history.
In December, the Winter Sports (Alpine Skiing, Snowboarding, Snow Volleyball) Championships will also be held for their second edition, with registration opening in Spring.

Many of the sports on offer are established fixtures within the EUSA Championships program, others are returning this summer after a few years of absence, one is an absolute novelty: for the first time ever EUSA Championships will feature a Padel competition - to be held in Coimbra, Portugal, mostly in parallel with the Tennis tournament.

This year, as many more since 2001, when the first European Universities Championships started being part of the EUSA Sports program, higher education students in Europe, have the opportunity to take part in so many European Universities Championships, which will be taking place all around Europe in fascinating cities and countries. Some of them have already been hosts to multiple Championships before, and some of them are trying their organising skills for an EUSA event for the very first time.

The championships have been organised annually since 2001, and since 2012 they are organised on a biannual basis, gathering student-athletes from universities all around Europe, providing them a chance to compete in team sports and in individual sports.
The 2025 season of the EUCs will begin with the Championship in Badminton, taking place in Madrid, Spain from June 22-28, and will be wrapped up for their summer session with the Championship in Rowing from September 18-21 in Bydgoszcz, Poland - followed by the December session that will showcase a highly anticipated second edition of the Winter Sports Championships, again on the great slopes of the Italian Dolomites.

The championships' organizers are effectively collaborating with EUSA, through inspection visits and consistent communication, to guarantee a smooth and high-quality competition. While we're already witnessing a high volume of registrations for certain sports, we urge you not to delay in registering to secure your place, as spaces are limited.

Registration is possible:
- through European national university sports bodies

Deadlines to register:
- February 15 for events starting in June and July
- March 15 for events starting in August and September

At the same time, please note that we are also inviting invite volunteers to register their interest to take part in the sports events and contribute to the organisation of the championships, with the same deadlines to apply - February 15 for sports which start in June and July, and March 15 for sports which start in August and September.

What's up! - Student Column
What's up! - Student Column

Co-creation of local sustainable sport events

whastup-february In this month’s What’s up student column, a student from Latvia Anastasija Rebezova shares her reflection on local sustainable sport events and engagement in the Fit4Green project.

This event goes beyond just sports - it is a holistic experience based on seven key elements that connect us to nature and responsible movement. Through awareness, action, and reflection, we aim to promote a sustainable approach to sports and outdoor activities. By actively engaging students and other stakeholders, we will explore how our movements interact with the environment, ensuring that our physical activities contribute positively rather than leaving a negative footprint.

A green event, in my opinion, involves more than just employing eco-friendly products or reduce trash. It involves encouraging a mentality change in which each person recognizes the consequences of their behaviour and upholds these principles outside of the event. It is about forming habits: using reusable items instead of throwaway ones, cleaning up after ourselves after events, and actively reclaiming the natural areas we utilize.

In addition to planning an event, Fit4Green is fostering a movement where sports groups take the lead in environmental conservation. I am eager to observe the results of this project and encourage more athletes to compete ethically and to think and behave responsibly.

The author Anastasija Rebezova is a student of social sciences at the University of Latvia. She is also a student member of the Fit4Green project team, representing Latvian University Sports Federation (LUSF/LASS), engaged in co-creating local sports events in partner countries. Fit4Green project is co-funded by the European Union, and its main aim is raising environmental awareness with the help of sport and physical activity.

Are you a student with an opinion? We are looking for new contributors for our student column every month. Feel free to contact stc@eusa.eu to offer a piece or propose a topic.
